You'll have three powertrains to choose from in the new Explorer, including two mild-hybrid engines and a full-hybrid option. The standard choice is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® I4, which can provide you with up to 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. From there, you can choose more power with the 3.0-liter EcoBoost® V6. This will generate up to 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.
On the other hand, you can opt for increased efficiency with the 3.3-liter Hybrid option, which will give you 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. The real advantage of this powertrain, of course, is the mileage. You can expect to drive up to 23 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which are some great numbers for an SUV of this size.
Interior and Exterior
The bold and elegant Explorer presents a striking image, and it looks just as good inside. There are a range of seating upholstery options and a variety of colors for each, and you can choose from a wide range of exterior colors, too. Plus, at nearly 200 inches long, you know you'll have plenty of cargo space at up to 87.8 cubic feet, all told.
Trim Levels
The Base Explorer
Even with the most basic option in the Explorer's lineup, you'll have some premium amenities like tri-zone automatic climate control and automatic high- and low-beam headlights. You'll also enjoy the SYNC® 3 infotainment system standard, as well as many of the driver-assist systems.
Explorer XLT
The XLT model immediately adds some extra convenience with the Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start, so you don't even need to take the keys out of your pocket to get going. You'll also gain heated front seats and heated captain's chairs for the second-row seating.
Explorer ST-Line
Shoppers often choose to upgrade to the ST-Line due to its leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, 360-degree camera system and 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. The seating also gets upgraded to use ActiveX™ upholstery, and both front seats at this point have power-adjust functions, with the driver's seat getting 10-way, while the front passenger's seat has 8-way.
Explorer Timberline
This off-road-oriented trim is the first Explorer to come with Hill Descent Control™ and the Terrain Management System™ standard. You'll also have Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive standard, ensuring you can take maximum advantage of every shred of traction around Williston, ND.
Explorer Limited
As we move higher in the trim levels, you'll start to see more and more luxurious features included. In the Limited, for example, you'll gain cooling elements in the front seats, as well as leather-trimmed upholstery and LED taillights.
Explorer ST
The ST trim level focuses on enhanced performance, being the first trim level to come standard with the 3.0-liter V6 engine. The suspension is also specially tuned for sport-like dynamics. In the cabin, you'll find the same leather-trimmed seats, but they now come with Miko® micro-perforated inserts for added comfort.
Explorer King Ranch
For the King Ranch, you can expect even more premium features such as the Del Rio leather seating, which have lasso-perforated inserts in all rows of seating. Plus, the third-row gains PowerFold® functionality, making it easy to gain some extra cargo space.
Explorer Platinum
Along with tri-diamond perforated leather upholstery, the top trim level for the Explorer provides an array of incredible technologies like Active Park Assist 2.0 and adaptive headlights, as well as enhanced style thanks to accents like a unique satin aluminum finished grille and lower bodyside cladding.
